4. Bus

Project Homepage: Building the 8 bit computer

I've created a starting point of a bus, using the power connectors from some non-kit breadboards. The bus has 12 lines:

  • 8 bits of data (Green),
  • Power (Vcc, GND)
  • Clock (White)
  • Clear (Yellow)

The color is using multi-coloured masking tape over the pin holes. Plan is to just push connectors through the tape as needed.

Bus layout

With (half) the bus laid out, I put together a little test harness so that I could use DIP switches to put data onto the bus, load it into a register, or alternatively set all the DIP switches off and read data from the register.
